Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority Supports Announced Merger of Delta Airlines and Northwest Airlines

The Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority enthusiastically supports the announced merger of Delta Airlines and Northwest Airlines.

"We have a long history of collaborating with both Northwest and Delta Airlines in the process of becoming America's hassle-free connecting hub. We fully envision that this merger will strengthen our passenger-connecting hub that is a model of efficiency and low-cost for our airline partners," said Arnold Perl, Chairman of Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority.

President and CEO Larry Cox added, "NWA and its CEO, Doug Steenland, have been great partners of Memphis International. This partnership has resulted in expanding the reach of Memphis International in both the domestic and international markets. We always will be grateful for the support and faith NWA has in the Memphis Hub."

Delta Airlines CEO, Richard Anderson, was one of the original architects of growing the Memphis Hub when he previously led NWA. Perl said, "Richard Anderson is a proven leader and greatly admired CEO in the airline industry. Richard Anderson always supported this hub and we look forward to resuming our close partnership with him."

"The benefits of the merger will positively change this region and accelerate Memphis International connecting the world. We truly can say that, "the best is yet to come," said Cox.
