The primary objective of the Airport Containment Team (A.C.T.) is to complement the Department’s total service program by providing for the deployment and use of special weapons and tactics when necessary to contend with “unusual situations” that cannot be effectively dealt with by the Patrol Division.  The A.C.T. mission is to resolve high-risk situations with a minimum of force, personal injury or property damage.

 These “high-risk situations” include, but are not limited to:

  • Neutralizing the efforts of barricaded persons;
  • Combating sniper actions;

  • Counter-acting hostage situations;
  • Expedition of large scale arrests;
  • Protecting dignitaries / VIP security;
  • Acts against civil aviation / hijacking;
  • Acts of terrorism; and
  • Such other unusual situations that may require the specialized services of the A.C.T.
