The Memphis International Airport Police Department (M.A.P.D.) was established in 1978 under the provisions of Tennessee Code Annotated (T.C.A.) 42-4-107, Section 14, and in accordance with the requirements of the Tennessee Police Officers Standards and Training Commission (P.O.S.T.). Officers of the Airport Police Department are regularly commissioned police officers, having the same authority and responsibilities as any other peace officer so identified under the T.C.A. Prior to that time the airport maintained a security force staffed by non-law enforcement personnel. |
