Memphis International Featured in Local and National Business Media
Memphis International Airport has recently been featured in two business magazines. Together these two features highlight the leadership that Memphis plays in international aviation and in the business of successful airport management.
A feature story in Business Facilities magazine looks at the global emphasis on airport cities and the concept of “aerotropolis,” focusing on the role Memphis is playing in this emerging trend. The eight-page story examines aviation and its impact on communities around the world, including the development of airport-centered communities in the Far East and Middle East. But, the centerpiece example of aerotropolis leadership is Memphis International, with more than a quarter of the entire article dedicated to what is happening in Memphis.
In the article, Professor John Kasarda, director of the Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise at the University of North Carolina, and co-author of the 2011 book Aerotropolis: The Way We’ll Live Next, calls the aerotropolis concept, “our next phase of globalization.” He describes Memphis in this way: “A true Aerotropolis development...[that]...has incentives, but they also have plans to organize the logistics facilities, offices, and the highway infrastructures. It’s a full-scale Aerotropolis plan.”
