Memphis International to Host 2011
Airport Cities Conference

Memphis International Airport officially became the host for the 2011 Airport Cities Conference & Exhibition (ACE2011) during this year’s gathering held recently in Beijing, China. The official designation was given to Memphis during a formal ceremony in which the Chinese hosts presented an engraved silver telescope to Memphis Mayor A C Wharton, Jr. at the close of the 2010 Conference signifying the group is looking toward the future conference in Memphis, April 11-13, 2011. The ceremony included enthusiastic invitations from Mayor Wharton, Airport Chairman Arnold Perl, and the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau President & CEO Kevin Kane, promising that ACE2011 will be an event to remember in terms of productive business and Southern hospitality.

Airport President and CEO Larry Cox was a key presenter at the Beijing Conference highlighting Memphis: America’s Aerotropolis as an evolving model “Airport City Decades in the Making” and expounding on its role as a key driver of local and regional economic development. There were 400 attendees from around the world with the largest number from the continents of Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Memphis is anticipating that number to climb to 500 attendees and to attract local, national and international media coverage. Attendees included airport representatives, government officials, real estate developers, consultants, vendors and other businesses involved in the development of an airport city or aerotropolis.
