Jack Sammons Joins Airport Board
Businessman and veteran public servant Jack Sammons has been appointed to the Airport’s Board of Commissioners.
Jack is president of Ampro Industries, Inc., the nation’s most successful ethnic hair gel manufacturing company, and serves as the national president of the Ethnic Product Manufacturers Association. A serial entrepreneur, in addition to his duties in the hair care industry, Jack is the sole general partner of The Sammons Company L.P., a Memphis-based employee benefits firm focused exclusively on marketing voluntary benefits.
Jack began his career in the financial services industry in the 1980s and is licensed in insurance, securities and commodities trading. He is a principal in varied business interests including restaurants and skin care product manufacturing.
Long active in community affairs, he is currently general chairman of Youth Programs, Inc., the governing body of the St. Jude Classic presented by Smith & Nephew – one of the longest running PGA TOUR events. He has served on the boards of various organizations including the Memphis Zoo, Memphis Fire Museum, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Memphis in May and many others. Jack was first elected to political office in 1987. He retired after serving four elected terms on the Memphis City Council. Councilman Sammons served as council chairman in 1993 and served as chairman of the City’s Operating Budget Committee for many years.
He will serve on the Airport Board’s Planning and Development, Governmental Affairs, and General Aviation and Ground Transportation committees.
