New Business Diversity Outreach Program
The Airport Authority has a new Business Diversity Outreach initiative designed to assist minority and women-owned businesses with the appropriate tools needed to ensure that they will be given a full and fair opportunity to participate in contracting opportunities at the Airport.
The initiative involves getting minority and women-owned businesses to develop relationships with the staff, advocacy groups such as The Mid-South Minority Business Council (MMBC/UCA) and other key entities for the purpose of getting assistance on issues relative to certification, insurance and bonding.
“We stress that their first step should be to begin developing a relationship with MMBC and to obtain and have certification in hand well before there is a real need for it. The next step is to develop a strong relationship with an insurance and bonding company, so that when the time comes for a contract opportunity, they will have proven and established relationships for performance,” says Richard White, the Airport’s Vice President of Properties & Business Development.
This initiative stresses the importance of advanced preparation and completion of these processes prior to bid submission. For more information, contact the Airport’s Contract Compliance Office at (901) 922-0255.
