FedEx Signs New Lease With Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority

FedEx Corp. has agreed to a new 30-year lease with the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority. FedEx will continue to lease property at Memphis International Airport for its hub operations, including its primary sorting and handling facility, aircraft hangars, aircraft ramp areas, vehicle parking areas, flight training and fuel facilities, administrative offices and warehouse space. The total space leased by FedEx is 30.5 million square feet.

In the first year of the new contract, FedEx will pay $6.8 million in rent. In 2008 the rate will increase to $7.9 million. On July 1, 2013, and on every fifth anniversary of that date, the annual rent will increase by 13 percent.

The last lease agreement between FedEx and the MSCAA was signed in 1979. This new agreement is effective Jan. 1 and ends on Dec. 31, 2036, with optional extensions through 2058.

Memphis International Airport has been the busiest cargo airport in the world for 15 consecutive years and FedEx is the driving force behind that accolade. The lease is the result of an excellent working relationship between FedEx executives and the MSCAA and Airport executives are very happy with the continuation of that relationship.
