News from around the Airport
Arnold Perl, chairman of the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority (MSCAA) and Tom Schmitt, FedEx Corp. executive, have co-authored a management book titled "Simple Solutions: Harness the Power of Passion and Simplicity to Get Results."
The premise of the book is the right tools combined with clear and enthusiastic leadership will break down complex problems and solve them. The book is broken down into short chapters and reinforcing case studies which help everyone from homemakers to business executives solve problems more efficiently.
The book was released by publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc., Hoboken, N.J., shortly before Christmas. In a few short weeks it had already outsold its initial 15,000 press run. Airport visitors will find it at both Hudson News and Paradies Shops.
Elsewhere around the MSCAA, Tom Farnsworth, Jr., resigned his position of Commissioner on the Airport Authority Board after 18 years of distinguished service. Farnsworth chaired the Planning & Development Committee and was a key part of the vision that led to the Airport's historic land exchange agreement between the Tennessee Air National Guard and FedEx.
In 2004 Memphis Business Journal named him to its list of 25 Businesspeople who had made the most dramatic difference in the community during the 25 years the publication had been in existence.
While Commissioner Farnsworth's knowledge and experience on the board will be greatly missed, he has made a lasting impression on the direction of the Memphis International Airport. Elsewhere, Sara Hall has been selected for the MSCAA new executive staff position of Vice President and General Counsel. She will also serve as Secretary for the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority Board of Commissioners. Hall is currently City Attorney and Director of the Law Division for the City of Memphis.
Hall graduated with honors from University of North Carolina School of Law. She received her B.A. in political science from University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she was Top Graduate in the College of Liberal Arts-Social Science, Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and was selected for Chancellor's Citation for Campus Leadership and Service.
Among Hall's civic and volunteer activities are board and leadership positions at Memphis Business Group on Health, the Nationwide National Retirement Education Institute Panel, Memphis Leadership Academy, Volunteer Memphis, and River Front Development Corporation. Hall was selected as a Memphis Business Journal 2006 "Top 40 Under 40" winner.
