Sun Studio Café Brings Memphis Sound Inside Airport
Elvis is alive and well and working at Sun Studio Café inside Memphis International Airport. Elvis Harvey is the general manager of Sun Studio Café - one of the new restaurants opened in December.
Sun Studio Café has been designed to make Memphians feel at home and new arrivals feel as if they have reached the streets of Memphis without even leaving the airport. The interior of the 4,500 square-foot restaurant focuses on the music and history of the city. Music paraphernalia lines the walls paying tribute to the many great artists that nurtured their talent in Sun Studios.
"We wanted to bring the life of Memphis inside the airport," said Harvey. "We want people to feel as though they are out in the city when they come in to eat or listen to music."
The music-themed menu offers a wide variety of choices from "Easy Listening," "Studio Cuts," "The Main Chorus" and "The Big Finale." Fun menu trivia about Sun Studios and its many famous recording artists adds to the ambiance of the restaurant. Popular menu items include Neely's Interstate BBQ pork or chicken sandwich and the grilled salmon BLT.
The live performers who take the stage three nights a week are another attractive feature that makes Sun Studio Café a great place to stop and eat. Harvey is working to book local groups to demonstrate the variety of Memphis music and to keep everyone's toes-tapping.
Harvey just laughs when he gets comments about his name. "I think it is a great fit that my name is Elvis. I am surrounded everyday by the culture, history and music of Memphis, and Elvis was a huge part of that. Growing up I never thought I would end up living and working in Memphis, but it really is great to be here."
