Airport's Perimeter Has Increased Surveillance
Memphis International has installed an intrusion detection system along its perimeter fence to increase protection against outside security threats. The system uses intelligent video software integrated with closed circuit TV to determine the threat level posed by people or vehicles circulating around the airport.
If a vehicle is traveling the wrong way or an unknown or unauthorized person enters a restricted zone, the system will alert the Airport's Police and Communications force via phone, pager or a remote console. After alerted, appropriate personnel can respond while others view the scene from existing cameras that monitor and video the premises.
The new system is an enhancement to existing police patrols, fencing, and video monitoring in that it will alert airport personnel at the moment an intrusion occurs and pinpoint the location to quickly determine response options.
The $2.3 million system will provide 100 percent coverage of the Airport's perimeter 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week, 365 days-a-year.
As an additional safety precaution, the Airport has established a Crime Buster's Line. Anyone seeing suspicious activity or a crime in or around the Airport can report it by calling 922-8298.
