President Cox Inducted Into State’s Aviation Hall of Fame

(Dec. 1, 2005)   Larry D. Cox, A.A.E., joined the ranks of the most revered and honored in Tennessee’s Aviation History last month when he was inducted into the Tennessee Aviation Hall of Fame during the group’s 4th Annual Gala and Induction Ceremony  held at the Tennessee Museum of Aviation in Sevierville, Tennessee.

Aviation Hall of Fame Founder and Chairman, Bob Minter, said “Larry D. Cox,  has led the Memphis International Airport to prominence around the globe.” 

The most dramatic and impacting growth of Memphis International has taken place during his leadership.

His long resume of leadership positions held across the spectrum of aviation industry organizations are evidence of his commitment to making Memphis and Tennessee a world leader in aviation.

The Tennessee Aviation Hall of Fame was established to recognize, honor and enshrine individuals whose leadership in or for aviation, whether by exceptional service or extraordinary achievement, has made an enduring contribution to aviation for Tennessee, our nation or the world.

Established in 2001 as Tennessee's Official Aviation Hall of Fame by the 102nd General Assembly, those inducted are recipients of Tennessee's highest honor in aviation or aerospace.

Four other prominent individuals were inducted this year alongside Cox.  They were the late Walter H. Beech (Beech Aircraft Company), Robert B. McNab, Jr. & the late James A. Wolfe (founders of Edwards & Associates, a world leader in the helicopter industry), and Margaret Rhea Seddon, M.D., former astronaut with NASA.

Previous recipients from West Tennessee include Frederick W. Smith (enshrined 2002), and Lt. Gov. John Wilder (enshrined 2004).
